BICA Foundation Course for Fertility Counselling

An essential course for all counsellors wishing to develop their interest and experience in fertility counselling.
This course is suitable for:
· Counsellors working in an HFEA Licensed Centres or
· Counsellors who see clients with infertility issues in other settings or
· Counsellors new to the field or
· Counsellors working towards BICA accreditation
Course Aims:
1. To provide an overview of the context and range of issues surrounding work with clients who are experiencing fertility issues
2. To increase understanding of the impact of reproductive techniques
3. To develop specialist knowledge and skills
4. To facilitate participants in attaining BICA accreditation in compliance with the HFEA Code of Practice.
The two days include: -
· An exploration of the complex motivations to have children
· Insights into the fertility journey
· The social and psychological impact of infertility on individuals and the couple
· The legislative and regularity framework and its counselling requirements
· Considerations in relation to the welfare of children
· Working in a multidisciplinary team
· The roles of the fertility counsellor
· Counselling people considering egg, sperm or embryo donation and those considering donating
· Introduction to Surrogacy and counselling for surrogacy
· Counsellors’ need for support
· The HFEA inspection process
· Providing, promoting & evaluating the counselling service
Delegates will have the opportunity to explore issues and practice skills learned through role play, group work and experiential activities.
Date: Monday 21st and Tuesday 22nd October 2024
Time: 9:15am to 4:30pm UK – Friday and Saturday
Delivered: Remotely Online - Cameras must remain on for the duration of the course
