BICA Training Team

Jennie Hunt, Chair BICA Training Team - Senior Infertility Counsellor

Jennie has many years’ experience of providing counselling within a clinic setting to people affected by infertility, both in the UK and Australia. She currently has aprivate practice, offers counselling supervision and mentoring for BICA Accreditation. Jennie is an Accredited Member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy, a Senior Accredited Member of the British Infertility Counselling Association (BICA), as well as having qualifications in both stress management, counselling supervision and couple counselling.

Jennie has a long-standing commitment to ensuring the highest quality of care in fertility counselling. She was the founding member and first chairperson of BICA, a committee member of the British Fertility Society and a Board member of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority. She is currently Chair of BICA’s Training Committee, a member of the BICA Accreditation Board and a member of the Imperial College Clinical Ethics Committee.

 

Gill Aldridge - Accredited Member

After a career in  commerce, Gill took a BSc in Psychology and initially trained in Relationship counselling (UA Dip), working with Relate as a Trainer and Counsellor. Working integratively, (key theories Systemic and Psychodynamic) , she then took a Post Graduate Diploma in Psychosexual therapy, trained as a Fertility Counsellor and qualified in EMDR.

Gill is an accredited member of BACP and BICA and a member of COSRT, working with individuals and couples, specialising in relationship issues, physical and psychological sexual difficulties, trauma and loss. Gill has a private practice and works at a licenced fertility clinic with NHS and private clients.

 

Suzanne Dark - Senior Accredited Member

After working in a variety of settings Suzanne qualified as a counsellor in 2002 and worked for many years in a NHS Women’s Health clinic and with survivors of sexual abuse in the voluntary sector. She started working as an infertility counsellor at Jessop Fertility, Sheffield Teaching Hospital NHS Trust in 2006, taking on the Senior Counsellor role in 2013. Suzanne is a Senior Accredited Member of BICA and Registered Member of BACP. Having gained experience of training in her previous settings Suzanne joined the BICA Training Group in 2013 and has taken an active part in BICA events program, as well as speaking about infertility counselling to wider professional audiences.

Alison Elliot - Accredited Member

Alison has worked for the NHS for over 16 years moving to fertility treatment in 2016 at Glasgow Royal Infirmary where she works with both NHS and patient funded clients. This is in addition to running a small private practice. She has a Masters in Public Health, has worked in the United States, Australia and New Zealand. Initially she delivered training in Gender Based Violence, trained as a counsellor in 2003 and started working for NHS in a sexual health clinic. Her core training is in person centred counselling but has also trained in Supervision, couples counselling, EMDR, EFT and emotion focussed therapy. Alison is passionate about delivering good quality fertility training.

Deborah Howe - Accredited Member

Debbie is the Patient Support Manager and Fertility Counsellor for a private fertility clinic, in London.  Debbie has been a BICA member since 2016 and shortly after joined the BICA Executive Committee as the Information Officer.  Debbie has been a fertility counsellor since 2015.  Debbie is an accredited member of BICA and BACP. 


Debbie offers support and implications counselling for individuals and couples.

Gerry McCluskey - Accredited Member

Gerry McCluskey originally trained as a Social Worker and since 1983 has held a variety of practitioner and management posts in Family and Child Care/Child Protection Fieldwork and Family Placement (Fostering and Adoption) having worked within both the statutory sector (Social Services) and the Voluntary Sector (Barnardo’s and Adoption Routes) in Northern Ireland.

Gerry is employed by the Fertility Counselling Service NI to provide counselling to anyone who is affected by infertility. She continues to work with a range of adoption social work tasks and provides adoption and fertility related training.

Gerry is an accredited member of BICA and is a member of BICA’s Training Team. She was member of BICA’s Executive from 2010- 2016 representing BICA on PROGAR (BASW’s Project Group on Assisted Reproduction) during that time. She has been a member of the Irish Fertility Counsellors’ Association since its inception in 2008. Gerry has a Masters in Social Work, an Advanced Diploma in Person Centred Counselling, is Relate Trained and has a Certificate in Complex Trauma and Childhood Abuse.

Angela Pericleous-Smith - Accredited Member

Angela Pericleous-Smith has worked as a Counsellor for over 20 years, specialising in infertility counselling for 15 years. She currently works as a fertility counsellor in Leeds alongside her Private Counselling and Supervision Practise in York.

Angela has a BSc in Therapeutic Counselling (Leeds Met), MA in Psychoanalytical Studies (Leeds Met) and PG Certificate in Supervision (St. Johns, York). Angela is a member of BACP, an Accredited member of BICA.

Angela has served on the executive committee from 2012 and was elected to Chair of BICA in 2018
