Mission Statement

Mission Statement

The British Infertility Counselling Association (BICA) is a registered charity and the UK’s leading professional fertility counselling association. BICA is recognised by both the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority and the British Fertility Society.

Our aims are:

  • To inform and educate our colleagues in the field of assisted conception and beyond and the wider public about the psychological and social impact of infertility through the provision of training and information.
  • To support our members in their practice and professional development through the provision of information, training, opportunities for networking and through an accreditation process that aims to ensure high quality standards and ethical practice are evaluated, maintained and adhered to.
  • To ensure that those who seek the services of our members are making well informed decisions in relation to their treatment and family building options and receive the highest standards of counselling care.
  • To safeguard the interests of those who seek the services of our members, recognising the sensitivity and expertise required when working with people affected by infertility, secondary infertility and involuntarily childlessness, many of whom face complex challenges and decisions related to alternative approaches to modern family creation such as donation, surrogacy and/or fertility preservation – and remaining without children
  • To represent the interests of our members in policy and practice forums, at conferences and at associated meetings.

As a registered charity we are committed to using our resources effectively to promote our aims.

Membership of BICA is open to anybody with an interest in fertility counselling, allied research or education and who supports BICA’s aims.
